Introduction to Screenwriting

Be part of the next generation of storytellers.

This class is an intensive study of screenplay format for the feature film. Using industry standard Final Draft software, students will develop and produce work at a level that is both effective and reflective of individual voice. Areas of focus include story structure, character development, tone, genre, and attention to the audience. Equal consideration is given to both the technical and creative aspects of the medium.

Students will gain a broader understanding of the craft of visual storytelling. They will learn how to express their ideas clearly, concisely, and directly. Emphasis will be placed on organization, structure, and focus — principles that are critical to effective communication. Brainstorming sessions will function to flesh out ideas and develop nuance and complexity. Finally, students will walk away with the skills and confidence to put pen to paper anytime anyplace.
